Well we missed a bullett this week. On Tuesday, Oliver had his by weekly appt with Dr. O. He weighed in at a whopping 17 bs 12oz. That is a 4oz gain in 2 weeks! No complaints with that. But less than 24 hours later Olie was not himself. Lots of dry coughs and I could hear the junk in his chest. We had a horrible night on Wednesday. He threw up every meal after his 4 pm. I gave him the benefit of doubt to work through what I perceived as a cold, but then Olie got even worse that night. He did not tolerate any of his feeds. I didnt even attempt the 4am bolus. He was restless and crying all night.
I went to see Dr. O Thursday AM only to discover Oliver had Pnemonia! How did that happen, I wondered! Sooo quick?! Dr. O quickly administered 2 large syringes (one in each leg) which was super painful. He also used an oxymeter to measure Oli’s oxygen saturation. It read 93, he has been at 100 for months. That was scary! Oh and he’d lost 8oz since Tuesdays appt. He asked me to bring him back that evening to get read again.
That evening, after weighing in at 17 and 6 oz (up 2 oz in half a day) This time he scored 95, Two shots again, and he told me what he purposely left out of our earlier conversation. He said Oliver had 3 paths to choose- oxymeter reading would get worse, stay the same, or get better. He said the latter two choices would have landed him back at Lucile Packard!!!!
Well, we went to see Dr. O this am and no shots!!!! Yahoo, the oxymeter read 97, and it definately shows on Oliver. No more junky chest, a great night sleep (at home), no thowing up at all! And he gained 1 more ounce, bringing him to 17lbs, 7 oz. Phew!!! We are now on antibiotics for 10 days…thank you dr. o for saving us!!
